Wild FlowerDo you like to take pictures of flowers?
Flower photography is one of the most rewarding subjects in nature photography. There are so many colors and varieties to photograph that you could never possibly take pictures of them all. From flowering trees to flowering grass, and the well known varieties of decorative flowers; even the most novice of flower photographers could spend years searching and photographing flowers of every shape and size.

It is important to select the right camera when beginning to take flower pictures. Flower photography is different than landscape photography as you have a large subject area when taking landscape pictures, but a very small subject at times when photographing flowers. It is important to have a camera or good lens that can zoom into your subject easily and one that possibly has an image stabilization feature. When photographing small subjects it is easy to experience camera shake and have the end result of your masterpiece a blurred mess. Nothing is more frustrating than looking at your picture through a camera preview screen that looks like a good capture; then finding out once you downloaded the image to your pc, that the picture is no good because you could not see the blur on such a small preview screen.

Flower pictures are one of the most sought after search items on the internet. There are so many occasions that flowers are appropriate to give as gifts of sentiment, special holiday’s, birthday’s and nothing says I love you on valentine’s day like a bouquet of flowers. So there are several sites that will offer e-cards, that have wonderful pictures of flowers and sites that offer flower pictures as backgrounds or art prints for artistic home décor.

Stock photography sites also sell hundreds if not thousands of flowers pictures each week to graphic artists, who are busy designing the covers for magazines and greeting cards for you to purchase in your local store. There seems to be a natural passion built into each one of us for smelling flowers or seeing pretty flowers along side the road. There is also a desire to surround ourselves with beautiful things that pertain to nature in our homes, workplace and churches. The Lord himself said that “King Solomon in all his glory was no arrayed like one of these” as He was speaking of lilies in the field.

No matter how many man made things we try to beatify our homes with, nothing adds that touch of nature like live flowers blooming in the window seal. Flower photography satisfies that special inner urge to see beautiful things and we even can decorate even our computer backgrounds and wallpaper with nature’s finest floral displays. With all of this in mind, you may ask yourself “Where can I begin to take flower pictures”? Well, I am glad you asked! Spring and Summer seasons are the best time to take flower pictures of anytime of the year. In spring you can find flowers blossoming all over the place. This is a great time to get to know your neighbor by visiting and taking you camera along with you. Simply knock on your neighbor’s door and ask them about their beautiful flowers. Anyone who takes time in growing beautiful flowers loves to receive compliments and if you take pictures their head will swell so big with ideas that their prized flowers may just very well end up in a magazine! So, with this approach you not only get to know your neighbor but you get some great flower shots also.

How else can you get great flower pictures? Well, at your local florist or flower nursery of course! These folks also love for photographers to come and take pictures of their wonderful flowers. 99 percent of the time they will not tell you to leave, or tell you that you have to pay for taking pictures. Hey, they are in the business of selling flowers, and if you publicize their work then that is all the better for them. You can also offer to send them samples of the pictures you take so they can use them in their publications. What a great way for them to get pictures of their product they are selling at no cost to them. All in all this works out great for the flower seller and it works out great for the photographer who is search for that perfect flower picture.

The final (but not last) place that I would recommend to look for flowers is to take a leisurely hike through the forest or your local nature trail. Go looking for different species of forest flowers and take your family with you. They can have a great time with you, while you are hiking through the forest and getting pictures. This is not only an opportune time to get flower pictures but a great time to get some exercise for your health. You may also visit you local conservatory just about any time of the year and take flower pictures. This is a nice climate controlled environment that will no doubt provide some very interesting specimen for flower photography.

Hopefully, you have been inspired to search for new and exciting places to take flower pictures and explore the local areas of your neighborhood gathering flower pictures to share and inspire others with. You are welcome to use any of my flower pictures for your decoration or computer wallpaper. You may even get an idea of how you would like to take your next flower picture as you explore the world of flower photography.
