High atop Spruce Knob the highest point in West Virginia during an early morning sunrise. This is one of the most beautiful times of the year when the colors of the sky show many variations in tint and hue. This is due to the angle of the sunlight entering the earths atmosphere. There is nothing like watching the sun rise from up on this mountain. The view is spectacular.

Wonderful Autumn Sky Mountain View high above the Monongahela Forest from Spruce Knob. This is the highest point in West Virginia. This image was taken early on an Autumn morning from the observation tower opposite from the sunrise. The sun had just began to peek out from the horizon. The colors of the distant sky make this a unique and colorful picture of the sky and Mountains below.

As we tarry along this country road the song comes to mind ”Country Roads Take me Home”. Here we are at a country road just below Spruce Knob Mountain. We have stayed the night up on the mountain so that we could get some early morning sunrise pictures. I had not counted on getting a beautiful autumn winding road country scene like this.

What a beautiful sight to behold an Autumn Sunrise at Spruce Knob West Virginia. This is the highest point in West Virginia and we are actually up on an observation tower looking toward the sun early in the morning. Don’t let the looks of the sun deceive you, because it is bitterly cold up here. The wind is blowing at least a constant 30 mph with temperatures around 30 degrees. Although that is nothing compared to how it is in the winter at this site it is still pretty cold. Nonetheless it is beautiful, and this is probably one of my favorite sunrise shots from up here.

Early in the morning viewing the autumn colors from the mountainside of Spruce Knob, WV. Here we are looking toward the western side of Spruce knob and the sun is just now rising behind us. The fall foliage scenery from up here is simply amazing in the late evening and early morning. Since there is no shade on the highest mountain in West Virginia the only way you can get subtle colors for photography is during an overcast day. Just over the hill is a little road where I have set and listened to my radio at night. Believe it or not I could pick up a radio station from Huntington West Virginia clear as a bell, which is about 200 miles away.
