Deep Ravine Winter Waterfall

Deep Ravine Winter Waterfall

Deep in a forest ravine near the Blackwater River in West Virginia. The water is ice cold and only flowing because of the constant motion. The temperatures are in the single digits but the ice and winter snow make the scenery alive in the dead of winter.

Forest Waterfall Icy Ravine

Forest Waterfall Icy Ravine

During a winter snow storm we hiked down into the New River Gorge. All along the mountains sides just above the New River are creeks and runs that pour down these mountain sides. One of these creeks is Keenys Creek. This is one of the most scenic and unknown areas of the New River, and the waterfalls along this creek are astounding. This particular waterfall cannot even be seen from the ridge top above but you must climb down into the ravine. This is one of our favorites.

Rugged Ravine Springtime

Rugged Ravine Springtime

Water rushes down this rugged ravine in the Spring time near Shenandoah State Park in Virginia. These are part of the dark hollow falls waterfalls run that has a nice hiking trail. This area is perfect for waterfall photography because of the natural shading.

Winter Waterfall Ice Snow Rocks

Winter Waterfall Ice Snow Rocks

A winter waterfall deep in a ravine in West Virginia. The water is particularly high right now because of all the snow and rain we have been getting. Although this picture may look peaceful it is anything but quiet right here. The water is very loud but that in itself helps to drown out the noise of everyday concerns and worries. This waterfall is about 25 feet high although it may not look like it from the pictures.

Winter Waterfall Ravine

Winter Waterfall Ravine

Waterfall deep in a ravine which pours into the New River Gorge in West Virginia. This creek has actually been used for extreme kayaking. It would certainly take a daring and adventurous heart to Kayak down this rugged creek considering the jagged rock edges and steep drops over the waterfalls.

Icy Winter Forest Waterfall

Icy Winter Forest Waterfall

These icy winter waterfalls seem to almost pour out from the screen. This water is bone chillingly cold and the water is really flowing fast from all of the heavy snow falls in the mountains. Next I am trying to figure out how I am going to get up to the next level to get a closer shot of the big waterfalls up above. It was fun climbing down here into this ravine, but I have to be careful that I do not push rocks down onto my hiking buddy, when climbing back up.

Rugged Winter Ravine Waterfall

Rugged Winter Ravine Waterfall

A rugged winter waterfall deep in a mountainous ravine. Here I am trying to capture the essence of the water flowing from the hillside into the creek that is rushing below me. I am actually standing on a big rock in the middle of the creek. This was taken during one of the biggest snow storms of the winter. The toughest part about taking this image was the amount of snow that was sticking to the lens. This was a beautiful sight to behold unlike any we had seen before.

Forest Waterfall Winter Snow Scene

Forest Waterfall Winter Snow Scene

Beautiful Waterfall deep in a ravine in West Virginia during a Winter Snow storm. We descended about 100 feet down to the rushing waters of Keeny’s creek. This is just above the New River Gorge. I am standing on a big snow covered rock trying to keep my balance while the snow is pouring down and the cold winter wind is blowing. My companion is over on the hillside, he is much more help than he realizes, just being here as my buddy.

Winter Waterfall Snow Rocks

Winter Waterfall Snow Rocks

Scenic winter waterfall with snow covered rocks. Deep in the New River Gorge during a winter snow storm. We climbed down into this ravine to get to this waterfall. Although you can see the creek from the road you cannot see this waterfall. the only way you can see this is to actually climb down here.
