Early on an autumn morning after a evening rainfall, fog surrounds this scenic forest lake. As the sun rises the fog begins to lift and a small water fowl swims over to meet me as I am taking pictures. It is as if he poses in the middle of the water to give an opportunity to capture a wildlife portrait of a duck in the midst of this autumn forest reflection.

Wonderful Autumn Sky Mountain View high above the Monongahela Forest from Spruce Knob. This is the highest point in West Virginia. This image was taken early on an Autumn morning from the observation tower opposite from the sunrise. The sun had just began to peek out from the horizon. The colors of the distant sky make this a unique and colorful picture of the sky and Mountains below.

Snow covers yellow daffodil flowers in the early spring. These beautiful flowers come out every year showing the flower blooms that have been hidden in bulbs all winter long under the ground. These are always the first flowers to show.

What a beautiful sight to behold an Autumn Sunrise at Spruce Knob West Virginia. This is the highest point in West Virginia and we are actually up on an observation tower looking toward the sun early in the morning. Don’t let the looks of the sun deceive you, because it is bitterly cold up here. The wind is blowing at least a constant 30 mph with temperatures around 30 degrees. Although that is nothing compared to how it is in the winter at this site it is still pretty cold. Nonetheless it is beautiful, and this is probably one of my favorite sunrise shots from up here.

Early in the morning viewing the autumn colors from the mountainside of Spruce Knob, WV. Here we are looking toward the western side of Spruce knob and the sun is just now rising behind us. The fall foliage scenery from up here is simply amazing in the late evening and early morning. Since there is no shade on the highest mountain in West Virginia the only way you can get subtle colors for photography is during an overcast day. Just over the hill is a little road where I have set and listened to my radio at night. Believe it or not I could pick up a radio station from Huntington West Virginia clear as a bell, which is about 200 miles away.

Early in the morning as I walk through the Canaan Wildlife Refuge I see many sites all around that make wonderful subjects to take pictures. But I look down and see this tiny spider web laden with dew in the grass and decided to get down on the level with this web and the forest floor creatures. In the spring spiderwebs and various other creatures come to life early in the forest and the dew of the morning gives a surreal feeling of peace and tranquility.
