Fiery Autumn Waterfall

This is a revisit to a photo scene that was discovered last autumn. It was simply by mistake that I discovered the swirling leaves and reminded me of a blazing fire. This year it began raining while I was taking many exposures of this scene. Most of the images turned out useless, this was the best I could get from them. Maybe I will get the perfect image of the fiery waterfalls next year.

Lazy Autumn Mallard Reflection

On a brilliant autumn day I happened to notice this mallard sleeping on a log in the middle of this cove. Can you see the lazy duck? He blends into the reflection very well. No doubt he certainly must feel safe out in the water like this. Amazing how wildlife adapts to their environment and makes the most from it.

Duck Autumn Forest Fog Morning Reflection Lake

Early on an autumn morning after a evening rainfall, fog surrounds this scenic forest lake. As the sun rises the fog begins to lift and a small water fowl swims over to meet me as I am taking pictures. It is as if he poses in the middle of the water to give an opportunity to capture a wildlife portrait of a duck in the midst of this autumn forest reflection.

Floating Leaves

Leaves floating in a forest lake near the last days of colorful fall foliage.
Now most of the leaves have fallen from the trees, and although there are not many colorful scenes in the trees, there are still beautiful colors found in and on top of the water.

Autumn Flowing Forest River

Late in the afternoon after hiking down into the bottom of this gorge (about 5 or 6 miles) we are blessed to see the further most lower falls of White Oak Gorge. This photo does not do the autumn scenery justice, it is truly a blessing to see the forest river flowing through the colorful autumn landscape, and it was well worth it.

Autumn Flower Field White Flowers

Before the heavy frost of the autumn season these flowers are flourishing in this colorful floral field. Amazing how the flowers abound up until the last moments of moderate temperatures. Not soon after the first cold frost these flowers are gone. One of the reasons I love photography, as it preserves moments in time.

Autumn Leaves Near Waterfall

Below a one hundred feet high waterfall these colorful autumn leaves were found upon the forest floor. I thought I would arrange them on a rock in a way to capture the waterfall and creek at the same time. The various shades and colors of these leaves depict the forest that surrounds the beautiful waterfall.

Coyote Face Snow

This coyote has stuck his face down in the snow apparently looking for something. The fur on this wild dog is very thick and full this time of the year. Certainly a coyote’s fur must be thick to keep them warm throughout the winter.

Autumn Reflection at Mabry Mill

Early Autumn morning at the Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are a few ducks that like to frequent this pond and seemed they wanted to have the cameras attention this morning. So I needed to wait until they chose to make their way to the shore and let the water settle before attempting a reflective shot such as this.
