Autumn Hillside Spruceknob Lake

Just on the other side of the dam for Spruce Knob Lake is this Autumn Hillside and Stream. This lake and surrounding forest is one of the most wonderful places in West Virginia. The Fall Foliage here is always outstanding even if it is dull and drear in other areas. It is an amazing place to be at night as well, because the stars come alive as a night time planetarium. This area is very remote and the silence is almost deafening at 2 am in the morning. Spruce knob is considered one of, if not the best place for stargazing on the east coast.

Autumn Sunrise Spruce Knob Wv

What a beautiful sight to behold an Autumn Sunrise at Spruce Knob West Virginia. This is the highest point in West Virginia and we are actually up on an observation tower looking toward the sun early in the morning. Don’t let the looks of the sun deceive you, because it is bitterly cold up here. The wind is blowing at least a constant 30 mph with temperatures around 30 degrees. Although that is nothing compared to how it is in the winter at this site it is still pretty cold. Nonetheless it is beautiful, and this is probably one of my favorite sunrise shots from up here.
