Out a hiking trail in Canaan Valley West Virginia a place called table rock offers a spectacular view of the Blackwater River Gorge. As we look around the beautiful mountains we can see that the tops of the mountains have changed colors already while the lower elevations in the mountains still remain green. This is a uniquely interesting variation in the autumn trees color.

The cool autumn water rushes through this creek in the middle of a West Virginia forest. This water is leading to the blackwater river and creates a spectacular scene as it passes through the colorful autumn foliage.

Although fall foliage is near peak in the mountains of West Virginia we have had a very mild fall without harsh freezing temperatures. This has allowed beautiful wildflowers to show their early autumn colors.

Dark crimson colored Trillium flower along a forest trail. These are pretty forest flowers found in the high mountainous areas of West Virginia. These are quite an interesting shape and color. Often these forest flowers are seen in white and pink. But this has a dark crimson maroon color.
