Rugged Ravine Springtime

Rugged Ravine Springtime

Water rushes down this rugged ravine in the Spring time near Shenandoah State Park in Virginia. These are part of the dark hollow falls waterfalls run that has a nice hiking trail. This area is perfect for waterfall photography because of the natural shading.

Dark Hollow Falls

Dark Hollow Falls

Down in the forest trail below Shenandoah’s Skyline drive are some beautiful waterfalls called Dark Hollow Falls. These waterfalls are just about a half mile hike down into the valley. Me and all three of my kids hiked down here in just a little while. The hike back up is not as easy but still not too bad. The falls are beautiful and the shade from either side makes log exposure waterfall pictures easy.

Scenic Winter Waterfall Scene

Scenic Winter Waterfall Scene

Standing on the side of this steep hill taking a picture of this roaring waterfall during a winter snow storm in late January. My son and I cleared trees and made our way through to this area during a snow storm so we could see these beautiful waterfalls during the winter snow storm. This is one of the largest waterfalls on this creek which pours into the New River Gorge.
Picture Height: 4941 pixels | Picture Width: 3744 pixels | Lens Aperture: f/22 | Image Exposure Time: 30 sec | Lens Focal Length mm: 28 mm | Photo Exposure Value: 0 EV | Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II | Photo White Balance: 0 | Color Space: sRGB |

Winter Waterfall Ravine

Winter Waterfall Ravine

Waterfall deep in a ravine which pours into the New River Gorge in West Virginia. This creek has actually been used for extreme kayaking. It would certainly take a daring and adventurous heart to Kayak down this rugged creek considering the jagged rock edges and steep drops over the waterfalls.
Picture Height: 5616 pixels | Picture Width: 3744 pixels | Lens Aperture: f/22 | Image Exposure Time: 5 sec | Lens Focal Length mm: 70 mm | Photo Exposure Value: 0 EV | Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II | Photo White Balance: 0 | Color Space: sRGB |

Icy Winter Forest Waterfall

Icy Winter Forest Waterfall

These icy winter waterfalls seem to almost pour out from the screen. This water is bone chillingly cold and the water is really flowing fast from all of the heavy snow falls in the mountains. Next I am trying to figure out how I am going to get up to the next level to get a closer shot of the big waterfalls up above. It was fun climbing down here into this ravine, but I have to be careful that I do not push rocks down onto my hiking buddy, when climbing back up.
Picture Height: 3744 pixels | Picture Width: 5616 pixels | Lens Aperture: f/22 | Image Exposure Time: 32/10 sec | Lens Focal Length mm: 55 mm | Photo Exposure Value: 0 EV | Camera Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II | Photo White Balance: 0 | Color Space: sRGB |

Scenic Winter Waterfall Soft Snow

Scenic Winter Waterfall Soft Snow

Soft accents during a heavy wet winter snow storm give a surreal effect to this scenic waterfall picture. Here, I am standing on the side of a steep cliff, hill in order to capture this image. If you notice the waterfalls keep going and going at the top of the rocks. This is a beautiful and peaceful area.

Rocks Waterfalls Autumn Foliage

Rocks Waterfalls Autumn Foliage

Rocks in the Blackwater River at Douglas Waterfalls during the season for autumn foliage. This is the first time I have been this far below the falls. The first time I was here I took pictures closer up to the waterfalls and the composition was not as structured as this. Although we are running out of light, this helps for long exposures without using a filter, so the images are sharper. I could set here all day if I had the time. The sounds of the water rushing by are very relaxing.
