Never fear – a digital photography workshop will be held at the Centennial branch of the Fort Erie Public Library Feb. 11 and 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The first session is called “You and Your Digital Camera” and covers basic skills. The second is “You, Your Camera and Your Computer,” which explores and evaluates some of the free software available for photographers.

Session leader Peter Ferguson is a popular guest at the library. He teaches technology in the classroom at Brock University’s faculty of education and hands-on Photoshop courses at Rodman Hall in St. Catharines. He is an avid wildlife and nature photographer who has been using digital cameras since 1990. Peter’s images have won numerous awards and are featured in many Algonquin Park and Ontario Nature publications.

The cost for each program will be $12, which includes instructional materials.

Because space at these workshops is limited, we ask those interested to register by calling 905-871-2546, ext. 300.

The library has many titles on digital photography in its collection, including “Step-by-Step Digital Photography: A Guide for Beginners.” Ask at any branch or search online at www.forterie.library.on.ca.

Has your library card gone missing inside your wallet lately? Lose and search no more – the library has a handy solution: Key tag library cards are now available for $5 per set. You get a brand-new Fort Erie Public Library card and three tags to hook on your keychains, so the convenience will last a long time. Stand-alone cards, in the same new style as the key tag sets, are also available.

First-time borrowers are given a single card for free, or may choose to purchase the key tag set. If you are already registered as a library user, but have lost your card, it’s easy to get a replacement. Bring identification to any library branch, with $3 for a card or $5 if you would like to go home with a key tag set.

Whether you explore what the library has to offer in person or online, your card is your key to a wealth of resources, information and enjoyment.

The staff pick of the week comes from information services librarian Sean Fleming, who recommends “Mr. Sebastian and the Negro Magician” by Daniel Wallace. A wondrous tale with an emotional punch, this story of love and loss, identity and illusion is peopled with a literal circus of memorable characters.

aroebuck@forterie.library.on.ca

Posted By Amy Roebuck Did Santa bring a digital camera to your house, but you aren’t sure how to work it?
