Saturday is Birds of Prey Day at nature center

The public is invited to learn about hawks and owls during Birds of Prey Day Saturday at the Louisville Nature Center.

The event is free, and is sponsored by the Louisville Nature Society and the Louisville Audubon Society.

It will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Louisville Nature Center, which is located across from the Louisville Zoo at 3745 Illinois Ave.

Attendees will get the chance to hear about birds of prey from Eileen Wicker, executive director of Raptor Rehab of Kentucky, who will be speaking from 10 a.m. until noon along with Raptor Rehab volunteers.

Artist Charlie Baker also will demonstrate wood carvings, and there will be guided hikes in the nature preserve.

Why I continued to use film cameras

I have a large investment in specialist Minolta (MC and MD) lenses, bellows and microscope attachments. These lenses have served me well for more than two decades in taking scientific, nature and macro photographs.  Apart from using a Nikon coolpix 5000 and a small canon digital compact for snapshots - I have largely steered away from using digital cameras for my ‘serious work’ because of the need to use my specialist lenses and my fondness for the information that these manual lenses supplied me with such as hyperfocal distance, infrared focussing corrections and magnification information.
