Judges pick nature winners

Photography, not flowers, was the topic Monday at the Cincinnati Flower Show at Coney Island. In the flower show’s first photo contest, Jeff Loewe of College Hill took first place for his shot of sunrise at a Lexington park.

Second place went to Lisa Knoffer of Amberley Village for her close-up view of flowering cucumber plants. Placing third was Tom Farmer of Oxford, who captured a hummingbird atop a daisy.

The contest, sponsored by Cincinnati.Com and NKY.Com, invited photographers to post up to 10 of their best garden or nature-based photos on the Web sites before to the flower show’s opening Saturday. Judges of the 2,000 entries were Michael E. Keating, an Enquirer photographer; Brian Jorg and Paula Norton of Paula Norton Photography.

The flower show continues 9 a.m.-7 p.m. daily through Sunday.
