Local Art: Wildlife photos showcased at Chico Paper Company

The Buzz

Wildlife and nature photographer Michael Mauro’s images have been featured in Outdoor Life, Backpacker Magazine, Outdoor Photo-grapher and Ducks Unlimited. His 17-year career has taken him to six continents.

Through January, Chico Paper Company is featuring an exhibit of bird and eagle photos shot by Mauro.

Mauro’s passion for the outdoors grew from a childhood in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado where he hiked, hunted and explored.

“It’s happened to everyone, a fleeting moment in time that would have made for the perfect picture,” his Web site states. “It was inspirational and breathtaking before you knew it that memorable instant disappeared. & Michael Mauro gives the world those seconds in time that invigorate our senses and takes us to places that might otherwise never be seen.”

The 2007 Banff Mountain Photography Competition, sponsored by National Geographic, recognized Mauro’s photos of a mother grizzly intimidating an approaching bear as one of its best.

In addition to his editorial work Mauro shoots many corporate projects and has shot and produced video projects for clients such as Versus, Discovery Channel and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife.

Chico Paper Company also continues to show Chico artist Chunhong Chang’s new “Hope and Unity” series. Jake Early’s new “California Highway 1″ print, the seventh in the series, is to be released at the end of January, exclusively at Chico Paper Company.

Chico Paper Company is located at 345 Broadway. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Call 891-0900 or visit www.chicopapercompany.com. For more information about Mauro, visit www.mauromedia.com.
