Upper Cascades

Upper Cascades

Upper cascades found past the well known cascade waterfalls of Virginia. The falls are another 3/4 mile past the open swimming area and are very secluded. One must walk through a tunnel of mountain laurel to find these beautiful waterfalls.

Cathedral Waterfalls Midland Trail Wv

Beautiful Cathedral falls found just beside midland trail route 60 in West Virginia. These waterfalls can be seen from the road and a nice little area is convenient for stopping for a rest after descending from Hawk’s Nest.

Alluring Cascades Pirouette

Alluring Cascades Pirouette

Everything was made to give praise and glory to the Lord. This alluring waterfall cascade is no exception. What is a Pirouette? It is a French word used to describe a twirling ballet dance. Just as this waterfall whirlpool dances before the Lord to His glory and praise.

Cascade Falls

Cascade Falls

After a two mile hike through some of the most beautiful autumn scenery I have ever seen, we arrived at the lower cascade falls. These waterfalls are a magnificent site and as you can see offer a wonderful swimming hole at the below.

Autumn Trees Surround Waterfalls

Autumn Trees Surround Waterfalls

Magnificent waterfalls deep in the forest on a beautiful autumn evening. This trilogy of waterfalls is just a small series of the entire system of waterfalls that cascade down this massive gorge that descends down the Shenandoah forest mountainside.

Fiery Autumn Waterfall

Fiery Autumn Waterfall

This is a revisit to a photo scene that was discovered last autumn. It was simply by mistake that I discovered the swirling leaves and reminded me of a blazing fire. This year it began raining while I was taking many exposures of this scene. Most of the images turned out useless, this was the best I could get from them. Maybe I will get the perfect image of the fiery waterfalls next year.

Clear Water Waterfall Landscape

Clear Water Waterfall Landscape

The beautiful clear water from these mountain stream waterfalls allows the rocks to be seen underneath the surface. The gorgeous landscape scenery all around thrills the hearts of the hikers and fall foliage sight seers passing by these waterfalls.

Autumn Clear Water Waterfall Landscape

Autumn Clear Water Waterfall Landscape

Late in the evening and with several miles to go uphill from the White Oak Gorge we are enjoying the beauty of this area. The water is wonderfully clear and the sounds of the waterfalls are very tranquil. Combine this with the surrounding fall foliage and landscape this is a literal paradise.

White Oak Canyon Waterfalls

White Oak Canyon Waterfalls

The upper White Oak Canyon waterfalls. Looks like we are a little past peak foliage time or rather that the leaves have fallen due to the wind here at the top of the canyon. Down inside the canyon where the winds cannot blow as hard, there is much more fall foliage. Although there is much surrounding color in this waterfall picture taken from the cliffs across from the waterfalls at around 100 feet high.

Fall Sunset Gristmill

Fall Sunset Gristmill

Late one autumn evening after sunset in the few minutes left before complete darkness, I captured this shot of the gristmill waterfalls of glade creek. The wind was blowing so it made the trees a little blurry however I still like this shot because it was taken in such low lighting. There are many great opportunities for fall foliage photography at Babcock state park in West Virginia.
